Charismatic Crocheted cellphone/ipod cosy

Bulky/chunky yarn, approx 1oz/30g (30m/33yds)
1 large button
5.5mm/I/9 crochet hook
Gauge swatch not necessary – project is small enough to act as swatch. Finished size 3.5 inches wide by 5 inches deep, plus flap.

(I used Loops and Threads Charisma for many of mine, hence the name.)

Make slipknot and place on hook, chain 12.

Work an sc into the second chain from hook, sc in each stitch to end (11 sts).

Instead of turning work over, you’re going to work in the opposite side of the chain to form closed bottom of bag. Sc in same stitch as before then turn work clockwise so that you can sc into the other side of the chain stitches until you reach the other end. (22 sts total)

Change to hdc: starting with the very first sc you made in the first round, work into every stitch in a spiral (no joining at end of each round) until there are 12 rows of hdc on both sides.

When 12 rounds are almost complete, and you’re about to work the last hdc before the edge, stop. Make an sc instead. Chain 2, turn the work over to make flap.
*hdc 9, ch 2, turn, repeat from * five times in all, finishing with the right side of the flap facing you for the buttonhole row.

Next row: hdc 3, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, hdc 4, ch 2, turn
Last row: hdc 9, working the centre two sts into the 2 chain space
Fasten off, weave in ends. Sew on button.

Note: I have a small basic Nokia phone which needed a smaller case than this, so I started with chain 9 instead of 12. It worked perfectly.
